BBC South Today: Top Story - Could a micro blush help save your life?
Patient J was a 56 year old council worker who had popped in for his lunch at Festival place. He saw the opportunity for a quick blood pressure check as we were just around the corner from the local Greggs and took us up on the opportunity. In his own words he had been 'nagged' to see his GP about his blood pressure for a few years but found it difficult in between his shift patterns. He popped into the hub where he used the lfielight software under the supervision of our clinical team. He was found to have dangerously high blood pressure (stage 3) which could have caused him to have a heart attack or a stroke if untreated. He was immediately signposted to one of our clinical team, who having taken a clinical conversation were able to start treatment that afternoon, all without him having to take time off work.
He was a great example of someone who wouldn't have sort help if they didn't have easy access.
Similarly we had patient Y who attended with her mother as her carer for a covid vaccination. Whilst waiting in the queue (we were running a bit behind schedule) she took up the opportunity for getting a blood pressure reading done. This was significantly high and again if left untreated could have caused serious harm. As a carer of someone she acknowledged she didn't have much time to look after her own health and we were able to support not just the patient with her covid vaccination but also her mother. Both of which had positive clinical outcomes.
