2nd September 2021: Business Hampshire: Technology developed by Hampshire entrepreneurs has attracted grant and equity funding of £2.7m in the last 14 months during the pandemic and selected a partner to the NHS to provide remote healthcare to patients

“Lifelight, developed by Xim Ltd, is a game changing technology that allows any smartphone or tablet device to measure blood pressure, pulse and breathing rate simply by a patient looking into the device’s built-in camera for 40 seconds. Completely contactless, with no additional hardware needed, it saves healthcare staff time while improving patient experience.

The life-saving digital healthcare platform can measure the key vital signs in infectious disease detection and control, long-term condition monitoring and remote primary care consultations.

The technology has been in development for over five years by Xim Ltd, a digital health technology company based at the University of Southampton Science Park.  The company has grown from just three employees to a team of twenty full time employees.

Laurence Pearce CEO and founder of Lifelight said; “The demand for Lifelight, globally, has dramatically accelerated, despite phone and online consultations becoming the new norm, the need for physical observations remains.  Lifelight means many face-to-face appointments can be reduced and, in some cases, replaced by more regular remote monitoring, providing improved levels of patient care and outcomes.

“The next 12 months will be an exciting time in Lifelight’s history, representing a number of firsts. The company is steadfast on its ethos of delivering solutions to market that adhere to clinical regulation and proven by validation, making Lifelight a viable solution not just across Europe but worldwide.

“Currently a CE Class I medical device, the company is working hard to deliver a CE Class II medical device and working towards FDA clearance, allowing entrance to the US, the largest global healthcare market.

To meet this demand, we plan to expand the business and invest in the very best talent. We work with the University of Southampton and the University of Portsmouth who support our clinical trial activity. Being based on the Science Park keeps us at the heart of the region’s digital technology cluster, alongside some of the UK’s most innovative businesses.”
